If a broken bike or part of it that has an asterisk is found in your household, do not rush to throw it away. An asterisk can be turned into a clamp - a really useful little thing that can always come in handy.

So let's get started. Of the basic tools, you will need a grinder, a bench vise and a welding machine. You will also need: thread lock, ruler, pencil, short bolt, long screw, washers, "lamb".

On the inner edge of the sprocket with a grinder, cut off the part on which the pedal is attached. Using a ruler and a pencil, we draw a marking that divides the asterisk in half and cut it into two parts.

The main stages of work

We connect the halves to each other, clamping in a vice so that the clove adjoins the clove. Now, you need to weld both halves to each other between the teeth. This will increase the strength of the structure.

Next, we weld a nut with an internal thread (3-4 centimeters long) to one edge of the sprocket, screw a screw into it. The length of the screw is selected in proportion to the diameter of the sprocket. Then you need to weld a short bolt to the other edge, a clamping heel (wide washer) to its head.

It is desirable to make the clamping penny on the long screw rotary (movable). To do this, make a threaded hole in the screw for a small bolt. We take two washers with a different inner hole and weld them.

We put the thread lock inside the screw and fasten the washers so that the bolt passes into one of the heel holes and does not protrude from it. It is not necessary to tighten the screw to the end; there should be a small free play for the mobility of the heel.

And in conclusion, we fasten and weld the lamb to the other end of the screw. It is better to take a larger lamb so that it is more convenient to tighten the screw. In the end, in just 30 minutes, you got a very useful tool.
