If you need to forge a knife from a steel plate or spring, and there is no blacksmith hearth on hand, you can make its 10-liter stainless steel kegs. Such containers are used for storing and transporting beer.

Of the other materials for making a homemade mini hearth, you will need:

  • a piece of steel corner with a shelf width of 100x100 mm;
  • thermal insulation material in a roll;
  • special heat-resistant cement for coating "vnutryanka";
  • gas burners and propane tank.

The main stages of work

First of all, with the help of a grinder, we cut off the upper part of the beer keg to make a wide hole. In the central part of the body of the steel tank, two large openings for gas burners need to be drilled, and on the other hand, four small openings for attaching two bracket-shaped supports.

From the inside, a stainless steel beer keg is “insulated” with thermally insulating roll material, and then coated with a cement mortar prepared on the basis of special heat-resistant cement.

But it is better, of course, to insert a steel pipe of suitable diameter inside the kegs, and fill the distance between the pipe walls and the thermally insulating material with a solution (the pipe will need to be pulled out later). In this case, the surface of the cement coating will be even and more durable.

At the last stage of work, we cut a piece in one of the shelves of the steel corner 100x100 mm (for the diameter of the hole in the upper part of the keg), and in the other shelf we drill two holes, after which we fix the supporting "table" to the forge. The surface of the beer keg can be painted with heat-resistant paint.
