Wood grinder from angle grinder

In a home carpentry workshop, a lathe will never be superfluous. But not everyone has the opportunity to buy it - pleasure is not cheap. But if you really need it, you can make a small wood lathe yourself, using angle grinders and inexpensive materials.

The base and body of the lathe will be assembled from plywood. For the base you will need a piece of plywood with dimensions of 45x30 mm. The remaining elements of the homemade machine are sized to fit. To connect the parts we will use self-tapping screws, and we will also need threaded bushings and bolts.

The main stages of work

The first thing we do is markup, after which we drill holes for screws. Then we fasten to the base previously prepared scraps of plywood. For reliability, you can also use carpentry glue.

At the next stage, it will be necessary to manufacture the front headstock of the lathe. To do this, cut out several circles from plywood, and glue them together. In the resulting blank we cut a square “window”, after which we drill eight holes for threaded bushings.

We install the lathe headstock onto the shaft of the UShM gearbox. We fix the grinder itself with steel clamps (at least two pieces are needed). It also does not hurt to make a tailstock. At the last stage, we install the support for the tool, and the home-made lathe is ready for work.

The design was, of course, primitive. But for elementary carpentry in a home workshop it may well work. It is also advisable to use a grinder with the ability to adjust engine speed.
