An ax sharpener is necessary just like a sharpener for kitchen or hunting knives. And it’s not necessary to buy it - you can do it yourself from the most common materials.

Moreover, the home-made sharpener has compact dimensions, is easy to disassemble and assemble. However, the most important thing is that it provides the correct sharpening angle, which, in turn, extends the life of the tool.

Of the basic tools for making a sharpener for sharpening an ax, you will need: a search neodymium magnet (can be ordered on the Internet), a piece of a profile pipe 15 * 15 mm and a length of 200 mm, an M8 bolt, a pair of nuts with a diameter of 8 and 10 mm, a ball from the bearing and a steel bar with a diameter of 8 mm.

The process of manufacturing a sharpener for sharpening an ax

First, an M8 nut must be welded to the end of the profile pipe. Please note that in this case, the wizard does not use an ordinary nut, but with a press washer.

At the next stage of work, it will be necessary to weld a nut with a diameter of 10 mm to the head of the M8 bolt. Fully scalded is not necessary - it will be enough just to put two tacks on the sides.

Next, the master cuts the M8 thread on a steel bar. After that, you need to cut two pieces of the bar 2 cm long, and weld them to the profile. These will be the stops that are needed for the grindstone.

Then it remains only to weld a steel ball from the bearing to the profile pipe. This is to ensure that the tool is comfortable to hold during operation. After that, you can start assembling.
