The center finder in the home workshop is a useful and necessary thing. With this tool, you can quickly find the center of the workpiece and draw a marking line.
Moreover, the center finder can be done with your own hands. In this review, the author shares his idea. The design is universal - it allows you to find the center on workpieces made of wood and metal (these are bars, plates, profile pipes) of different sizes.
To make the center finder, you will need a steel square, three bolts and eight small bearings (they can be removed from the fidget spinners).
The main stages of work
First of all, the author makes a marking, after which he drills seven holes in a square at the same distance from each other. Another through hole will need to be drilled on the perpendicular side of the workpiece.
In the drilled holes (in all but the central one), the thread must be cut. Then the author grinds two bolts under the cone. Then they will need to be hardened.
Center Finder Assembly
At the last stage, it remains only to assemble the device. We put four bearings on the bolts and insert them into the holes drilled in the square blank.
A scriber for metal or a pencil is inserted into the central hole, and is fixed with a third bolt.
