The modular adjustable bookshelf, according to this guide, is very easy to make, and you can have a fun weekend. The advantage of this shelf is an aluminum frame with tubes, which makes it easy to move the shelves, so they slide well. As you can see in the illustrations, the shelves are placed at a standard interval, but nothing prevented us from arranging them all at different heights. Thus, you can make your shelf the way you want.
Despite the fact that due to the aluminum frame with tubes this bookshelf can cost you a lot, its manufacturability, durability and aesthetics will allow this piece of furniture to serve you for many years. If after a while you no longer need this bookshelf, you can turn its individual parts into new interior items. This shelf is not from cheap chipboard worktops that you can find in a large hypermarket and, ultimately, turn into a pile of rubbish when moving to a new place. Since this shelf can be disassembled into small light elements, it is relatively easy to reassemble it by moving to a new home.

Materials

Tools and materials you need:
  • 36 x 91 x 1.5 cm pine board (or other tree to choose from). Pine board is best suited for two reasons: it is strong enough and pleases with its aesthetic appearance;
  • 183 cm x 2.5 cm aluminum tubes;
  • mounting supports for through holes 2.5 cm;
  • ends on tubes 2.5 cm;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • liter of wood stain for a choice (in this case polycrystalline satin is used);
  • drilling machine (if you do not have a drilling machine and milling cutter, you can use an electric drill and a crown);
  • mill 25/30/8;
  • manual grinding machine (and / or grinding pad);
  • sandpaper 180;
  • sandpaper 220;
  • electric drill;
  • 31/86 hex wrench with 5.5 mm tip size;
  • ruler;
  • pencil.

Mark and drill

Make symmetrical measurements from the edges of each canvas. It is important that the placement of the holes on each sheet coincides, otherwise there will be problems in further work.
The following marks are made on five boards:
  • 4.5 cm in width x 5 cm in length;
  • 4.5 cm in length x 21 cm in width;
  • 77 cm in length x 5 cm in width;
  • 77 cm in length x 21 cm in width.

Drill each of these marks in the center using a 25/30/8 cutter.
On the sixth board, neither marks nor drilling are made. It will function as the top of a bookshelf.

Grinding

Sand the surface and edges of all boards with 180 sandpaper to make it clean and smooth.
In addition, you can slightly round the edges of the boards with a grinder if you want to make them less sharp.

We cover

It is time to cover the prepared boards with a stain. In our case, they are twice coated with polycrystalline satin stain, and lightly sanded with 220 grit sand after each coating. There are no clear rules, you can make coverage as you want.

Fasten the mount

Lay the board without holes on a flat surface.
Place one of the drilled boards on the other workpiece, and draw a contour of each of the four holes on it with a pencil. Center the mounting holes for the through holes around each of the four holes.
Finally, attach the supports to the plate using self-tapping screws.

Start to collect

Place the top of the shelf upside down on the floor so that the brackets face up. Insert aluminum racks into each of the plate brackets and fix them with self-tapping screws.
If you want to make the distances between the shelves equal, find two or more identical drawers or containers in height and place them between the boards.
Slide the next shelf upside down along the aluminum racks until it lies flat against the boxes. Use a level for accuracy. Then lock
shelf using the set screws of the bracket. Finally, remove the boxes between the shelves.
Two shelves are ready.

Add the remaining shelves

Keep adding shelves the same way. Repeat this until all plates are in place.

Finishing touches

Carefully turn the bookshelf over (preferably with a friend) and put the ends on the tubes.

Arranging books

It is time to fill the shelves with your favorite books and magazines.
