The fresher the model, the unfortunately the cheaper are the trim, the steering parts, gearshift lever, climate control area and power window control, parts that are weak to wear. Finishing materials for steering wheels of modern cars: wood, leather, plastic. When the mileage is approaching 100 thousand, the interior is particularly affected. What can I say if even the texture of the plastic is erased to a smooth shiny state.

Consider ways to restore a leather bagel

1. Search for a contracted spare part from a car of no greater mileage.
pros: do not bother with the repair, the type of less wear is better than restored.
Minuses: big price, out of stock, shortage.
2. Replacing the braid.
pros: new skin, pronounced texture.
Minuses: it will cost from 2500 rubles, the quality will depend on the master, but it is difficult to repeat the factory seam, adjust the skin so that it lies without wrinkles.
3. A good option for pre-sale preparation of painting (if the surface is not rubbed to holes).
pros: not expensive and fast.
Minuses: needed locksmith skills, experience with paints and varnishes.
It is interesting, although not easy to work with genuine leather, to absorb primers and paints well. When restoring a worn steering wheel with your own hands, it is easier to apply paints and primers in aerosol cans. We will need:
· Motip paint (recommended) for interior leather (300-500 rubles)
A sheet of moisture-resistant sandpaper with a gradation of 1000 (30-40 rubles)

Steering wheel removal sequence

1. Turn off the battery or do not turn on the ignition until the work is completed! Due to disconnection of the airbag from the circuit, a "check" may light up (error reset 500-1500 rubles).
2. Remove the airbag (it is recommended for each model to see information on relevant forums or video).
3. To remove the steering wheel, to do this, do not fully tighten the central nut and forcefully drive the steering wheel away from you to pull it off the slots (the nut will prevent the steering wheel from getting into the forehead).
4. Mark with a marker or screwdriver the position of the steering wheel on the slots and remove it.
5. Skin the braid surface, dry, degrease.
6. We paint.
Assemble in the reverse order.
