If you have a blacksmith anvil with a hammer in your workshop, and also springs from a truck lying around unnecessarily, then you can do creative work - make a very beautiful long dagger with your own hands. Of course, you won’t go to the forest with such a home-made blade, but an exclusive souvenir will turn out excellent.

Why spring, and not other material? Firstly, this blank costs a penny (it can be found in the garage of a neighbor or bought at scrap metal collection points). Secondly, the spring is characterized by increased elasticity, since it is made of high-quality spring steel. But the most important thing is that the metal lends itself well enough to hardening and does not blunt for a long time.

Preparatory work

Since the car spring has a slightly curved shape, the first step is to straighten the dagger blank. To do this, we heat the metal red-hot, put the spring on the anvil and "beat off" with a hammer until a straight plate is obtained. In this case, it is not necessary to significantly reduce the thickness. Then we cut off the workpiece of the desired length from the straightened spring.

To give the dagger an unusual shape, we mill its surface along the edges, and also make a longitudinal groove in the middle. Next, we take the grinder in our hands and cut out the handle. After that, we process the dagger on a grinding belt machine. On the handle we make beautiful brass plates. Then you need to harden the metal, as well as finish grinding and polishing.
