After a little refinement of the usual old pliers, you can make a useful and multifunctional tool that is useful when performing various locksmith work in the garage, in the country or in the home workshop.

Of the basic materials for “tuning” old pliers, 4 steel plates, two pieces of a square bar, 2 aluminum corners, as well as fasteners - screws or bolts will be required. First you need to make blanks, and then proceed to the assembly of the tool.

The main stages of work

First of all, we clean the surface of the pliers with sandpaper, removing dirt and rust. Then we cut two small pieces (of the same size) from a steel bar of square section, after which we drill the mounting holes according to the markings made in advance.

Then, using screws, we attach to each segment two plates of a quadrangular shape. The resulting parts must be screwed to the outside of the jaws of the pliers. We drill holes in the upper part, cut the thread and tighten the fixing screws.

We drill one more hole in the handles of the pliers - it will be possible to insert a wire into them and bite off pieces of the desired length from it. We process the inner and outer surfaces of the jaws with a flat file for metal, and then fasten the corners (or plates bent by the letter "G").

Using these grips, it is very convenient to remove the plugs and other decorative flat elements that are almost flush with the surface. If you remove the grips, and insert the rods bent in different directions into the sponges, you will get a tool to remove the snap rings. See all applications in the video on the website.
