If you need to sharpen the drill, straighten the knife or perform other minor sharpening work, you can make a simple emery machine based on an electric drill. The main parts will require a steel shaft, as well as a pair of housing bearings.

The main stages of work

First of all, it is necessary to grind a shaft of a suitable size and shape from a steel blank, and then in the center on one side - you need to drill a hole and cut a thread in it for the M8 bolt. Like it or not, you can’t do without a lathe at this stage. Alternatively, you can turn to a familiar turner.

Then we install the finished shaft in the housing bearings, after which we fasten them to two wooden blocks that are attached to the desktop or workbench. On one side of the shaft we put on an abrasive wheel and fix it with a bolt with washers, and insert the shank into the electric drill chuck.

Moreover, for an electric drill, it will be necessary to make a small supporting platform of bars so that it is at the same height as the shaft. As a fastener, you can use a steel clamp. The result is a simple sharpening machine for a summer residence, home workshop or garage.

To summarize

It is clear that the power drill is inferior to the electric motor in power, however, if there is no grinding machine and this engine for its manufacture, this option is quite capable of helping out. Sharpening the drill or adjusting the knife - this machine will cope with this task without any problems, and the drill will not overheat if used wisely.
