Buying a clamp for a home workshop is not a problem - in construction stores and on the market you can choose products of a very different design. But why not make a joiner's clamp with your own hands, using improvised materials for this?

For example, a good clamp to fix metal and wood blanks can be made from old motorcycle stars. Also for this homemade product you will need a stud, a bearing, two nuts and a small piece of reinforcement or a round bar.

The main stages of work

The first thing to do is cut the “core” in a large star. This can be done using a grinder with a cutting wheel. In principle, you can use the usual manual hacksaw for metal. Just a grinder will be much faster.

Then the asterisk needs to be cut in half - from these blanks you will get two clamps. We weld a small asterisk to the bottom of the half of the big motorcycle sprocket (in a perpendicular plane). There is no need to scald it completely. It will be enough to grab in several places.

Two nuts will need to be welded to the top. Next, take a bearing of a suitable size and weld a large steel washer on top of it. Then cut off the piece of the stud that will be used as a screw, insert it into the bearing and weld to the washer.

At the last stage of work, we weld to the stud a valve from reinforcement or a round steel bar. For a detailed process of making a homemade joiner's clamp from old stars from a motorcycle, see the video on the website.
