Conventional bench vices do not hold the knife blank well during its machining. A couple of times, of course, you can get by with them, but if you do knives all the time, you will need a more practical device to use.

From pieces of a round steel pipe, you can make a very convenient home-made knife holder, which will facilitate the work with workpieces. To make such a device is very simple - you only need a grinder, an electric drill (preferably a drilling machine) and a welding machine.

In addition to metal pipes, pieces of a plate and wooden blocks will also be required, which will be used as clamping jaws. As the base for the knife holder, you can take a square plate, which will be attached to the table with bolts.

The main stages of work

First of all, it will be necessary to connect two pieces of a round pipe perpendicular to each other. To do this, in one of the segments we cut out the saddle with a grinder, and then we weld two blanks together. Whenever possible it is better to use thick-walled pipes.

Next, we cut out a square-shaped steel plate, mark and drill four holes in the corners. We weld a piece of pipe to the base of a home-made holder, into which we insert a workpiece of two pipes. On a drilling machine, we drill holes in the blanks for fixing bolts with flaps.

Inside a horizontal pipe, insert a segment of a smaller diameter, in which you first need to cut two grooves along the edges. In those places where holes were drilled, we weld nuts under the bolts.
