Cutter from an old car wiper blade

From an old car wiper blade, you can make a mini cutter for carving wood artwork. Actually, you will not need the entire brush, but only a piece of stainless steel strip. There is a strip between the elastic bands. Sometimes completely plastic wiper blades come across - these will not work.

Homemade stainless steel cutter will do well with both soft and hard wood (thanks to the short edge). However, note that it is impossible to temper stainless steel - after that it becomes excessively soft.

To make a mini-cutter for woodwork, you will need a piece of a plate about 7-8 cm long, as well as a piece of a wooden round stick about 15 cm long for making a handle. To do this, it is better to use solid wood, and preferably without a core.

The main stages of work

We grind a strip of stainless steel on an emery machine at an angle of 30 degrees. Ideally, it would be sharpened at 45 degrees, but in this case, the width of the workpiece does not allow this. Then we insert the finished cutter at the wooden handle using liquid nails or epoxy glue.

The final sharpening of the blade is already done on sandpaper. Then polish the cutter. This is not necessary, but desirable. Then we cover the handle with varnish or you can just soak it with mineral oil.

Details on how to make a cutter from an old car wiper blade with your own hands can be found in the video on the website.
