Fum tape, like flax (tow), is often used to seal threads on pipes and other threaded connections when installing water supply elements of a home network.
But many people refuse this seal, since it is not always possible to ensure normal tightness with it.
However, in 90% of cases, the cause of leaks is not the fum tape itself in terms of material quality, but the mistakes made when it is wound on the thread. Read more about how to properly wind the fum tape so that the threaded connection is of high quality.
Step-by-step work process
First of all, you need to rewind a piece of fum tape of the required length (depends on the diameter of the used fitting or pipe), fold it in half and form a small such "bundle".
Further, starting from the edge of the thread (fitting shoulder), you need to tightly wind the fum tape onto the thread so that each new thread overlaps the previous half.
When they reached the beginning of the thread, the fum tape must be sealed by hand. If the compound is responsible, you can additionally use a sealing paste (usually it is gray).
Then we wind the tap or coupling. First you need to wind by hand, and then with the key. And in this way all threaded connections are sealed with a fum tape.
