When working in a home workshop or garage, one often has to deal with a situation where the edges on the nut or hat of the bolt are “lapped” and the usual open-end (or adjustable) wrench is simply scrolled.

This problem can be solved using a universal chain key that works on compression. You can make such a device with your own hands from a chain and an asterisk from the timing of a car engine.

The simplicity of the construction of a homemade chain key makes it very practical and easy to use. The device itself consists of two main elements: a clamping mechanism and a handle.

The main stages of work

First of all, it will be necessary to trim part of the wrench (open-end) wrench with a grinder. Then you need to cut a piece of the metal timing chain that is suitable for the length, and weld one end to the wrench.

And on the opposite side, it will be necessary to weld a part of the sprocket from the timing of the car engine. Welds should be cleaned with a grinder with a petal circle or with a hand grinder (electric file).

The result is a simple universal fixture for the workshop and garage, with which you can unscrew the bolts and nuts with mucous faces.
