In every workshop (especially if you are engaged in the manufacture of various home-made products) you need a grinding machine, whether it is an abrasive wheel, a grinding machine or a grinder. The latter will be discussed in this review.

To make a DIY grinder, you don’t need a lot of tricky details. Part can be found in the garage (workshop), and part is inexpensive to buy on hand or in the market with auto parts.

First you need to buy a used electric motor or remove it yourself from an old washing machine. Next, with the help of a profile pipe, we proceed to assemble the frame for the engine. We weld everything according to the drawing and clean all the seams with the help of angle grinders (angle grinder, grinder).

The main stages of work

In one of the pipe pieces, we cut out the grooves and weld it to the bed. We prepare a small piece of the profile pipe with a hole in the center. And then we drill holes in the perpendicular part of the pipe.

We insert a nut under one of the holes and wind the stud inside, tightening it with the exact same nut from the outside. The result is a shaft for adjusting the engine tension.

Next, we proceed to the assembly of the frame of our grinder. Also, adhering to the drawing, we collect and weld all parts of the working area for grinding. We install guide rollers from bearings on the tops of the pipes using long bolts.

Special attention should be paid to the belt tensioner. It can be made from rollers from old Lada, metal plate, hinges, and a pair of bolts with nuts and washers.

We cut one of the sides from the rollers and throw them on the bolt, adjusting the position of the washers so that the rollers do not rub against each other.

We collect the rollers for transmitting torque from the belt to the tape from ordinary plywood. We cut the circles of the desired diameter, glue them together and through the hole in the center of the circles we fix everything on the drive shaft. By attaching a belt, you can set an almost perfect shape for our rollers using angle grinders.

Putting the whole structure together, paint it. After painting and final assembly, you can get to work. You can watch the detailed process of making a homemade grinder yourself in this video.
