Contact spot welding allows you to create a reliable welded connection of parts and workpieces at home. Welding occurs due to strong heating at a specific "point" at the moment of contact of two copper electrodes with metal.

The main element of resistance spot welding is a transformer. In this case, the author uses a microwave power transformer to make a homemade device.

The first step is to remove the secondary winding from the microwave oven transformer. In this case, it will not be needed.

At the next stage, the author installs a new secondary winding from a welding copper cable with a cross section of 50 mm2. We install the transformer on the base and mount the fan to cool it.

The main stages of work

Next, the base with a transformer and a fan must be placed in a metal case. On the side we bring out the button (toggle switch), and close the end with a piece of plywood with holes through which we pass the ends of the welding cable.

From pieces of the profile pipe, the author welds the base, as well as the stand and the mechanism with a foot pedal, which will drive the copper electrodes.

We fasten the base with the transformer to the rack. And at the last stage, it remains only to assemble the entire structure and install copper electrodes.

You can watch more details on how to make budget spot welding from a microwave transformer using your own hands in this video.
