Cutlery from cupronickel, as well as silver, are available in almost every home. So I, doing cleaning up in the parental closets, came across a small box with teaspoons of cupronickel with a gilded coating. But after lying unnecessarily for thirty years, they looked very deplorable.

In search of information on how to clean cupronickel spoons, I reviewed a lot of different sites and found quite a few pretty simple ways to eliminate this terrible plaque on spoons. In practice, I decided to try several options for cleaning with simple home remedies as an experiment.

To begin with, I tried to simply wash the spoons using the usual detergent for dishes, but this, of course, had no effect on the coating.

So we will experiment.
1 way. Cover the bottom of the stainless (or enamelled) container with foil and stack the spoons. Pour 60 g of soda ash and 40 g of salt.

We fill it with hot water so that the objects are completely covered by it. We put the container on the stove and boil for 15 minutes on low heat (so that the signs of boiling were barely noticeable). Spoons right before your eyes begin to lighten.

We rinse them with clean water in order to eliminate traces of soda and salt, and wipe dry with a soft cloth. There are no trace of black spots.

This method of cleaning is not recommended if gold-plated objects have a gold-plated coating. But I still took a chance. Gilding has become a little lighter, but it does not matter.
2 way. We put a little toothpaste on the cotton pad (you can also use powder) and rub a cupronickel spoon, of course, with a little effort. And the spoons flashed again with their pristine splendor. This is the effect!

3 way. Pour a liter of water into a saucepan, put on fire, throw the chopped shell from two eggs (raw) and 30 g of salt.

As soon as the water boils, we put spoons of cupronickel into it, boil for literally two minutes, and ... all efforts were in vain. Spoons have not changed at all.

4 method is specifically designed for cupronickel with gilding. We moisten a ball of cotton wool with apple cider vinegar (you can also use egg white, turpentine or wine vinegar) and rub it thoroughly with a spoon. Alas! Again no positive result. I even tried for several minutes to withstand a spoon in a pure solution of vinegar, but to no avail.

5 way. On a fine grater we rub the peeled potato tuber and immerse cupronickel spoons in the gruel.

Perhaps this method of cleaning is the safest, since you do not need to rub or boil, and even more so use chemical products. Only natural natural component. True, there is no sense in him either. All blackness remained in place.

Here are 5 ways to clean cupronickel cutlery, tested by me. Most of all I liked the option of using toothpaste. It was to them that I cleaned all the spoons that took part (to no avail) in other experiments. The paste instantly removes all blackness.

But this is not all ways to clean cupronickel items. The rest I just mention in passing, suddenly someone will come in handy.
To clean spoons from cupronickel with small impurities in the form of stains and darkening, you can also use such available means as:
• ammonia, if diluted in warm water and just washed with this solution devices, then rinse in clean water and wipe dry;
• chalk, if it is crushed to a state of flour and, sprinkled on a suede fabric, rub objects with it;
• vodka or alcohol, if rubbed cupronickel instruments moistened with a soft cloth;
• water left after boiling eggs or potatoes - you just need to wash it with objects or soak overnight;
• special products used to clean jewelry.
Now about what in no case can be done when trying to clean cupronickel objects. So, you can not use any means containing chlorine - it has a bad effect on cupronickel;
Use abrasive substances and rub items made of nickel silver with coarse hard sponges - this will lead to a violation of the integrity of the coating;
Wash such items in the dishwasher.
And in conclusion, a few words about how to properly "contain" and store objects from cupronickel, so that later you do not have to make efforts to restore their former sparkling appearance. To do this, you should only follow a few rules:
• it is desirable to store cutlery from cupronickel separately from all others in a box;
• after using the devices, it is immediately necessary to wash them with detergent, then dip them in soda solution;
• any method of washing or cleaning cupronickel objects should be completed by wiping dry with a soft cloth;
• after completing the washing procedure, ideally dry forks, spoons, and nickel silver knives must first be wrapped in paper (the wrapper absorbs excess moisture), then wrapped with cling film (to prevent air penetration), and also packaged in foil for greater reliability.
With proper handling of objects from cupronickel, no effort will be required to bring them into proper shape. It's all up to us.
